Situation: Verst Tackled Seasonal Safety Spikes

Verst Logistics, a Kentucky-based logistics leader with 23 warehouses in 5 states, offers advanced services like assembly and knitting to clients including Toyota and L’Oreal.  The urgency to swiftly move products from major consumer goods and beverage clients during holidays necessitated additional, yet often untrained, staff. This lack of training for these new employees led to a rise in safety breaches, notably in vehicle movement protocols like stopping at intersections and aisles, escalating the risk of injuries and equipment damage. Keen to proactively address these issues, Verst aimed to bolster safety measures ahead of the next high-demand period.

Solution: Verst Implements Diverse Safety Protocols After Gaining Full Site Visibility

Verst utilized Voxel’s site visibility and insightful dashboards to enhance warehouse safety and efficiency. They applied video-based coaching for forklift drivers that focused on alerting hazards in high-risk areas. Workflows were redistributed to reduce ergonomic strain and install more time for breaks. Improved forklift safety was achieved by adding more stop signs, retraining drivers, and marking no-pallet zones for clear pedestrian paths. These steps, combining coaching and environmental changes, significantly improved safety and navigational efficiency in at their Hebron, KY facility.

Success: Reducing vehicle safety incidents led to further adoption across the network

In just five months, vehicle safety incidents decreased by 80% and ergonomic incidents were cut by half. This success led to the expansion of Voxel's technology to more sites. The Hebron facility's daily vehicle safety incidents dropped from 19 to 3 in six months, thanks to effective training and proactive safety measures. These results, driven by Voxel's insights, are shaping new distribution center designs for enhanced safety and efficiency and Verst continually refines its standard operating procedures based on these insights.
